This came as Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Enugu State,yesterday, doled out N100 million to fund Neighbourhood Watch groups in 472 communities to complement the services of security agencies in the state. Buhari in Igbo attire Buhari in Igbo attire The Minister of Science and Technology, Chief Ogbonnaya Onu, made the call in his country home at Uburu in Ohaozara Local Government Area of the state, where he received key stakeholders of the All Progressives Congress, APC, within the South East zone in his residence. Onu, who appealed for calm among the people of the zone, charged them not to take laws into their hands as the President had already given directives towards curbing the recent menace of criminality. “The President has condemned it; we appeal to our people in the South-East to exercise patience. Ugwuanyi’s largesse Following the perceived inaction of security agencies in Enugu State that culminated in the slaughter of 46 natives of Ukpabi,Nimbo community, Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, yesterday, doled out N100 million to fund Neighbourhood Watch groups in 472 communities to complement the services of security agencies. The governor also mandated the Ministry of Poverty Reduction and Human Capital to quickly inaugurate Neighbourhood Watch groups in all the 472 communities to forestal a recurrence of Fulani herdsmen invasion of any part of the state. This came on a day, the traditional rulers and town’s union presidents in the state in a communique stated in part: “We are also grateful to the governor for the donation of the sum of N100 million in support of the security efforts and activities of the communities. We have resolved to go back to our respective communities to mobilize the people and sensitize them on the need to support the initiatives of the government as they relate to security of lives and properties in Enugu State. Rebuilding Nimbo community Barely one week after the attack of Nimbo community in Uzo-Uwani Local Government Area, Enugu State by the Fulani herdsmen, citizens of the state in the United Kingdom, have offered to assist rebuild burnt houses, damaged properties, and donated clothings and food items for the refugees of the community. The Special Adviser to Enugu State governor, Mrs. Olangwa Eziekwu made the offer when she visited Nimbo refugees at Nsukka stadium where she donated cartons of Indomie noodles, bags of rice, tissue papers, fruit drinks, among others, and promised to bring more in no distant time as citizens of the state in Diaspora would send more relief materials to the victims and the displaced ones of the community. Senator Ekweremadu urged the people of the community to continue to live in peace while a permanent solution to the problem was being sought, just as he assured them that the perpetrators of the attacks, which led to the destruction of lives and property in the community, would be brought to book. Speaking on Sunday when he led a team of National Assembly members from Enugu State, on an assessment and condolence tour of the community, Ekweremadu further called on all Nigerians to respect the sanctity of life as well as the culture and tradition of host communities where ever they find themselves.
