Igbo Trader Lands self in trouble for Naming His Dog 'BUHARI'
Police Arrest Man For Naming His Dog 'BUHARI' A 30 years old Igbo trader whose name is Joe Fortemose Chinakwe, of No 10, Omikunle Street, Sango-Ota, Ogun State, was reportedly arrested last weekend, after one of his neighbours of Northern extraction complained bitterly that he named his dog after his father, Alhaji Buhari. According to Vanguard, the complainant reported the case at Sango Police Station, last Saturday, after which the trader was arrested and detained. However, it was gathered that efforts by the police to recover the dog, which they intended using as evidence failed following a clever move by the suspect. The trader, said to be trading in female wears at a popular market in Sango, allegedly directed his friends secretly to kill the dog and possibly eat the meat in order to avoid being implicated. It was gathered that consistent appeals by his friends and relations for the police to grant him bail failed as the complainant and his kinsmen reportedly threatened to kill the trader if he was released on bail Trader denied bail The case, however, took a different dimension two days later when Chinakwe’s relatives went to Sango police station to further plead for his bail only to be informed that the case file and the suspect have been transferred to Ogun State Police Command headquarters at Eleweran. A relation to the suspect, who simply identified himself as Chiedozie, told Vanguard that his brother was being persecuted for no just cause and expressed fears that he may either be poisoned inside police cell or thrown into jail. Chiedozie said: “Chinakwe is a lover of dogs and he names them after things that tickle him. He bought this dog a year ago and named it Buhari. Unfortunately, some Northerners, who dominate the vicinity where he resides misconstrued his intention and connived to take him up. The complainant then claimed it was derogatory because his father answers Buhari.” Police sources, however, told Vanguard that the actions of the suspect “were very provocative.” The source said: “he not only named the dog Buhari but boldly wrote it on the body of both sides of the dog and was seen parading the neighborhood dominated by Northerners with it.” As at press time, relations to the suspect were still making frantic efforts to effect his bail while his accusers are insisting that he must be prosecuted. Police confirms arrest When contacted around 8pm yesterday, the acting Police spokesman in Ogun State, Abimbola Oyeyemi, ASP, said he was still trying to get the Divisional Police Officer in-charge of Sango for details. Oyeyemi later called, stating that: “I have made enquiries. The man bought a dog and inscribed Buhari on both sides of its body. One Mallam lodged a complaint and when our men got there, we found out that it was true. You know such thing can cause serious breach of the peace and ethnic or religious unrest. We are charging him to court for conduct likely to cause a breach of peace.” Continuing, he said: “He was arrested last Saturday and we are taking him to court later today (Tuesday) or tomorrow morning (today). You know an average Northerner will feel bad over such a thing. It can cause serious ethnic crisis or religious confrontation because when you are relegating such a name to a certain person, you are indirectly insulting him.” When asked about the whereabouts of the dog that will be used as evidence against the suspect, the police spokesman said: “The dog cannot follow anybody except the owner. We will use him as our evidence because he did not deny it
BUHARI ENJOINS NNPC TO COMMENCE OIL EXPLORATION IN BENUE TROUGH
BREAKING NEWS!
BUHARI ENJOINS NNPC TO COMMENCE OIL EXPLORATION IN BENUE TROUGH
President Muhammadu Buhari has enjoined the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, NNPC, to commence the search for crude oil and other hydrocarbon exploratory activities in the Benue Trough.
According to a statement by the NNPC, Group Managing Director of the NNPC, Mr. Maikaniti Baru, disclosed this while receiving a delegation from the Benue State Government, who paid him a courtesy visit in Abuja.
This is coming few days after the same directive was given to the NNPC to intensify crude oil exploration in the Chad basin.
The Benue Trough is a major geological formation underlying a large part of Nigeria, extending about 1,000 kilometer north-east from the Bight of Benin to Lake Chad. It is part of the broader Central African Rift System.
Baru stated that the directive to commence exploratory activities in the Benue Trough was part of efforts to guarantee energy security of the country.
In addition, the NNPC also stated that it has reinvigorated its collaboration with the Benue State Government on the Ethanol project which is geared towards production of biofuels for energy sufficiency.
Baru noted that ethanol when blended with Premium Motor Spirit, PMS, otherwise known as petrol, ensures excellent performance of vehicles, stressing that energy sufficiency and proficiency were part of the cardinal objectives of the NNPC.
The NNPC added that it has initiated a renewable energy programme in August 2005 which is in conformity with the Kyoto Protocol agreement to which Nigeria is a signatory.
The primary aim of the programme, according to the NNPC, is to link the agricultural sector with the oil and gas industry, adding that it is also targeted at gradually reducing the nation’s dependence on imported gasoline, reducing environmental pollution as a result of consumption of wholesale fossil fuel as well as creating a commercially viable industry that can boast of sustainable domestic jobs.
“A similar programme in Brazil has a thriving biofuels industry providing quantum economic benefits including creation of hundreds of thousands of employment opportunities for nationals of that country,” the NNPC noted.
Also speaking, leader of the Benue State delegation, Mr. Terwase Orbunde, commended the NNPC for resolving the recent fuel supply challenges and pledged the readiness of the state government to support the quick take-off of the Ethanol project, adding that the project would generate jobs for Nigerians.
Orbunde assured the NNPC of full support and cooperation from the State Government and the host communities, stressing that the State Government fully identifies with the energy policy of the Federal Government.
The Benue trough, according to Wikipedia, has its southern limit at the northern boundary of the Niger Delta, where it dips down and is overlaid with Tertiary and more recent sediments. It extends in a northeasterly direction to the Chad Basin, and is about 150 kilometer wide.
The trough is arbitrarily divided into lower, middle and upper regions, and the upper region is further divided into the Gongola and Yola arms.
The Anambra Basin in the west of the lower region is more recent than the rest of the trough, being formed during a later period of compression, but is considered part of the formation.

New Garage Bariga fire incident caused by electrical surge - LASEMA
Marginalization of Orokam Community.

Fact has emerged as regards the visit of Ogbadibo Cultural Carnival team lead by my Johson Agada to Okam Forum Abuja on Sunday to secure the endorsement of the proposed Carnival,
It was gathered that the meeting ended in a deadlock as the Forum led by its chairman Col Apochi RTD Wasn’t satisfied with elementary arrangement so far.
According to an insider who is a member of the forum, said that “ the group discovered from the letter addressed to the forum that the name of Orokam was written in lowercase among the three communities mentioned as host communities, a development that prompted the chairman to reject the letter until the team admitted it was a typographical error, they back up their innocence with another copy of the letter where the name was written in upper case letters.
“Another issue that the Forum frowned at was the names of the organizing committee in which none of any Orokam son or daughter made the list as Orokam was completely left out, all the names were from Otukpa and only one person was named from Owukpa community who was absent from the meeting, the group was not however happy with the situation and therefore asked Mr Agada to go back to his drawing board and do the needful.
Mr Itodo Favour Austine , an Orokam lagos base activities had in the past raised an alarm over what he described as the marginalization of Orokam Community in the appointment of the organizing committee at the elementary stage of the proposed Ogbadibo Cultural Carnival which is scheduled to take place in December 2016,the Orokam United Forum Secretary General in a statement through Idoma Voice accused Mr Johnson Agada of his discriminatory appointment by not seeing any Orokam son or daughter worthy to be part of the organizing committee, shortly ,Mr Agada Johnson appointed him as the coordinator OCC Lagos State which he posted on the event facebook page, a position Mr Itodo is yet to accept till date as he claimed he is not comfortable with circumstances surrounding the appointment. What the Okam Forum group has done is the confirmation of the allegation raised by the Lagos Based activist last month.
If the Ogbadibo Cultural Carnival is worth celebrating, If the Cultural Carnival is for the interest of Ogbadibo, justice must be done to the injustice in the selection of the organizing committee else the good people of Orokam may be tempted to consider the option of opting out of the proposed carnival.

APC HAS FAILED, PDP SHOULD TAKE BACK POWER IN BENUE- Young Alhaji.
What a Change.
PDP in bad shape.
The former Deputy Governor of Benue State Chief Stephen Lawani who out of his fatherly love gave the party his buliding to be used when he was sworn in as the Deputy Governor as the party secretariat has given PDP Benue State the grace of few months to vacate his premises!!
Despite the fact that Chief Lawani decamped to the ruliing Party about five months ago, he still allowed them to be using it but as it is now he has no option than to let them go!!
It is so unfortunate and highly regretable that after 16yrs in power, the PDP in Benue State have no single structure to call its party Secretariat, but they were busy building companies, hotels, filling stations to mention but a few within the state, outside the state and even in abroad without even a thatch house to call its own, even when they were opportuned, little part of the stolen Benue #107B would have even given them a better structure!!
Instead of thinking on how to put the house they scattered in order, they were busy chanting "Change The Change" as their new slogan and I asked what happened to "The Power To The People"?.
Have they also forgotten that power was not forcefully taken from them but through a free and fair election??
No structure, No Slogan, No State Chairman, No National Chairman!!

Idomapilot gist of the week....
Last week Gej said MEND was after his life, yesterday Mend accused Gej with details of how NDA was formed.
Its not new really, PMB was accused of sponsoring Boko Haram, but the difference is that GEJ is being accused by his own people
No Northerner accused PMB of Boko Haram
Personally i dont think GEJ founded NDA he is too weak for that, but he could be financing, so they say ooo, but he doesnt look like someone who can think of something like this he could only be carried along.
If i hear say Wike na e start NDA i go hear but definitely not the ineffectual past leader, make MEND talk something else.
Former Benue PDP guber candidate, Tarzoor Indicted by NHRC for Electoral Fraud
Former Benue PDP guber candidate, Tarzoor Indicted by NHRC for Electoral Fraud
A former Benue governorship candidate of the People's Democratic Party (PDP), Prince Terhemen Tarzoor has denied allegations of electoral fraud leveled against him by the Nigerian Human Rights Commission, NHRC.
Tarzoor alongside other politicians were indicted for perpetrating electoral impunity between 2007 and 2015.
Responding to the report via a press statement, the PDP chieftain noted that he was not invited by the commission to defend himself, questioning how they arrived at such conclusions.
He said, "While in a crucial meeting this evening in Abuja towards the repositioning of our great party, the People's Democratic Party (PDP), several calls and text messages kept coming in from family members, friends, well wishers and political associates all over the country to the effect that, my name has been listed and published among the 118 persons indicted by the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) over electoral violence perpetrated by the listed names in the 2011 and 2015 general elections respectively.
"The alleged indictment have not been officially communicated to me; I wish to make the following observations and clarifications:
"That the said indictment was as a result of a Seven Man Commission of Inquiry set up by the NHRC which recommendations the Commission has acted on. My observation is however, that, a Commission of Inquiry is a fact-finding body and, therefore, ought to have invited my honourable self for proof of allegations levelled against me, if any at all. The fact that I didn't receive any invitation from the Commission, ab initio, makes me imagine how it arrived at its resolutions indicting me even when it denied me the opportunity of fair hearing.
"I wish to reiterate that, nothing would have stopped me from attending its sessions if I was invited to appear before the Commission of Inquiry for questioning.I wish to herein state and clarify that, I am a peaceful and law abiding citizen of our dear country Nigeria and I have never taken laws into my hands. I have always abided by the rule and due process of the law especially with specific regard to election matters.
"It must be recalled that, in 2011, I was re-elected into the Benue State House of Assembly on the platform of the People's Democratic Party (PDP), was therein elected Speaker of the State Assembly but was subsequently removed from office as a result of irregularities observed in the conduct of the election by INEC, through a judgement of the Appeal Court panel sitting in Makurdi and I accepted the verdict of the Court.
"Again as candidate of the PDP in the April 11 2015 Governorship Election in Benue State, after the election results were declared against me, I approached the Election Petition Tribunal and went all the way through the Appeal Court to the Supreme Court wherin, the Apex Court gave a judgement against me. No matter how dissatisfied I was with the verdicts of the various courts, I accepted the outcomes and has since put them behind me.
"It is only on the basis of the above that I query the resolutions of the Commission of Inquiry which recommendations the NHRC has relied upon to indict me.
"As I have stated above, I am a peaceful and generally law abiding citizen who has tremendous respect for the role of the NHRC so far and shall not act in a manner that is capable of undermining its operations in the country. However, I shall quickly communicate with my team of lawyers as to the next line of action to be taken.
"I appreciate all those who have shown genuine concern towards me since this information was made public and urge you all to be calm as I shall do everything within my reach to address this matter with strict compliance with the laws of the land." the statement added.
The madness of beauty pageants in Benue State
Story by..... Naomi Oboyi
Once upon a time in Benue and indeed Nigeria, beauty pageants were strongly regarded as platforms that showcased the true beauty and intelligence of the Nigerian girl.
We miss the good old days when our beauty queens walked around with so much pride and dignity.
I remember way back, as a fresh pre-degree student of the Benue State University, Makurdi, my roommates told me so many beautiful stories about the Official Miss Benue Beauty Pageant and how they looked forward to it every year.
Sadly, it’s a different story today, as disrepute has taken the place of the prestige that comes with the crown and office of a beauty queen in Benue State.
“If asked to choose role models out of the ‘thousands’ of Benue beauty queens, for young Benue girls, I will not come back with a handful of true beauty queens,” these were the words of a public affairs analyst.
I once eavesdropped on a conversation and I heard some folks saying, “every girl for Makurdi now na kwin. Small time now, we go start to dey see Miss Wadata and Miss Gyado Villa.”
I laughed it off at that point, but shortly afterwards, I saw a flyer promoting a ‘Miss Judges Quarters’ beauty pageant, as though that wasn’t enough, I stumbled on another ‘Miss PDP’ pageant. At that point, I knew that the business had taken a quantum leap in Benue.
Being a major compere at most of the beauty pageant shows in the state, I prepared my mind for the day that I just might be invited to be a Master of Ceremonies at a ‘Miss Gyado Villa’ pageant.
The truth is, beauty pageants have contributed a great deal in keeping lots of Nigerian and even Benue youths busy and productive with monetary gains for both the winners and organisers through sponsorship from individuals and corporate organisations.
There’s no point doubting the fact that beauty contests have contributed in the creation of employments for youths in the state, but on the other hand, the upsurge of beauty pageants in Benue is alarming, to say the least.
They keep springing up everyday like mushrooms, such that almost every local government area in the state now has a crowned beauty queen.
For some people, this is regarded as a good development, for others, most Benue beauty pageants have lost value.
Our girls now fall over themselves just to become beauty queens, they desperately want to be addressed as ‘Her Royal Majesty’, they’re willing to do just about anything to achieve this.
The show organisers on the other hand have discovered this and they have turned our young future mothers into pawns that they use to get what they want.
My question is: what exactly is the point of these pageants? What morals are they teaching our young girls?
Another pertinent question begging for answer is: what exactly is the motivation on the part of our future mothers? Why are they so desperate about about winning a beauty contest?
Is it the car, the crown, the fame, the connection, the courtesy calls, or the platform to give back to the society? These and more questions are still begging for answers.
Ladies, I honestly do not know why some of us are so eager to become “beauty queens” though, but if the end goal is to make quick money or to oppress other ‘queenless’ girls with your crown, then it is quite unfortunate.
The new style is to advertise a beauty contest, even when there’s no car at hand, the organisers still put up a picture of a car on the flyer and wait for the girls to buy the forms. The eventual winner ends up buying the car for herself after embarking on thousands of ‘courtesy visits’.
Little wonder we hear of queens fighting their organisers and being decrowned in the process.
How did we get to this point? How did it become so bad? Can we still restore the pride and and dignity of beauty pageant shows and that of the crowned queen?
***For the record, Benue State has the highest number of beauty queens in Nigeria (according to the Association Of Beauty Pageants and Fashion Exhibition Organisers Of Nigeria, ABPFEON).
Tinubu may impose a candidate on the APC, 2019. Says Abayomi.
A democracy rights activist and All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship aspirant in Ondo State, Dr. Tunji Abayomi, has described APC "National Leader," Bola Tinubu, as a man who frustrates the democratic aspirations of Nigerians through his dictatorial tendencies.
Abayomi, who admitted he has great admiration for Tinubu’s contributions to the return of civil rule and his political sagacity, dropped the bombshell in a letter to the APC chieftain titled “The Tonic Of Democracy Is The Right Of The People To Choose Their Leaders,” the letter traced the history of the duo through the days of struggle for democracy under the military to the return of self-rule and Abayomi’s decision to join the Alliance for Democracy (AD), the political platform under which Tinubu became the governor of Lagos state in 1999.
The lawyer said there are hints that Tinubu is about imposing a candidate on the APC.
